Amelia's right hand made quick work of scribbling her signature on a piece of paper that a fan had thrust in her face. Lines on lines of folks clamoring together trying to get an autograph and photo with their favorite Quidditch player as they made their way from one event to another. One of the most media highlighted days of the year today was the day all of the players got together pre-season, dressed up, and took promotional photos and handled interviews. Usually Amelia would have rather skipped an event but free booze and a fancy dinner was what eventually convinced her to attend and so far it hadn't been totally terrible. It definitely could have been a whole lot worse. This was the first one of these she had attended without Oliver on her arm and it wasn't as scary as she had been expecting. Luckily (so far) most reporters had been wise enough to not ask about the breakup which meant it was a ticking time bomb until someone did. No matter. She'd relish in the calm before the storm while she could.

Out of the corner of her eye she spotted @lhartwell slide in next to her and inwardly she smiled watching him shyly (but very professionally) answer questions. "There you are." Turning to face her bestie she lightly took his left arm with her right hand tugging slightly so to get his attention not at all caring that they were surrounded by press and fans on a purple carpet who were now furiously calling out their names and flashing photos like mad. "Hey you." She smiled vibrantly at him. It was only a matter of time until they had managed to find one another. Usually at the dinner they had to sit with their teams (understandably) but right now everything was jumbled. "How are you holding up so far?" She asked in no rush to move down the line. If she had bumped into Lucas it probably meant Oliver was somewhere close by and she didn't really want that to happen. "Have you seen Spinnet? She said she was coming... At least I effing hope so. She makes these things way more fun and at least semi bearable." Amelia asked trying to crane her neck to peer down the line of people. Stop and go. Stop and go. That would be most of the night except for the current moment's bit of stillness.

"But look at you! You're all done up." Looking him up and down her smile grew, eyes brightening. "You look so nice you big jerk."

These media days were some of the most draining for Lucas Hartwell. He really didn't enjoy being in big crowds, or talking to media. But it was part of his job, and his father was always watching, or at least it seemed that way. His father, who controlled his entire professional life. So he went along with it and while his general reserved nature was still there, visible to those who knew him, he answered questions, signed autographs as professionally as he could. Of course then there would be the dinner as well. He was just looking forward to getting home and sitting on the couch with his pups. These media events were bad enough without feeling like he had to be perfect. So he just kept going, and he moved and slipped in next to someone he knew. Of course that wasn't too hard in the quidditch world, but this person was a long time friend. He had gone to school with Amelia, and even though she was 2 years younger and in a different house, they had bonded.

When she took his arm he looked over and smiled. "What were you looking for me?" he teased a little. Obviously they both knew they would be there, it was one of those pre-season events that all the teams attended. It was more or less a given they would run into one another at some point during the evening. Even if they didn't manage it during the current mess of players, they would likely try and seek each other out at least to say hello later. "Hey to you too." He said as his name went on yet another poster from a fan. "I'm doing as well as I can be." She likely knew how much he hated these events. No one enjoyed them, but the crowds of people were just stressful for him. "I have not seen her. I didn't even know she was planning on coming." he said looking at her. He hadn't been in as close contact with Alicia as he had with Amelia. But then there was a little bit of a vested interest in Amelia. That was because he had been harboring a crush on her since they had been back in school, even if he figured it would never happen.

"You're all done up as well" he said with a big smile before adding "Please, I look how I normally do at these things."

"And what if I was?" Amelia teased, giving him a light nudge with her elbow. They went through this song and dance every year and honestly she looked forward to the casual banter about running into one another more than any of the official events of the day. "I was hardly trying though and I still managed to find you. I may have a second career path on my hands." The Keeper joked. Really she was grateful to see a familiar face that wasn't forcing a microphone in her face. A VERY familiar face with quite the bit of history.

"Look at you Mister Popular." She smiled, taking a poster with her picture on it and scribbling a signature in black marker only half paying attention to making it neat (it never was). "Do you need another eight markers? I think my manager brought like six boxes. You'll run out of ink at this rate." Lucas was about of big of a fan of these publicity events as she was - Maybe even less than. Still it was amusing to see him out and about handling it like a pro (at least in her opinion). Then again he had probably been brought up for this very thing considering his family. This wasn't something to bring up with the man himself, Lucas always got so touchy and defensive when discussing his family, and it was one of the few places where Amelia knew better than to push her luck.

"Oh shut up." At the compliment about her appearance she rolled her eyes signing another autograph. "He's so full of it." She said to a group of young fans with a wry smile and a wink. They looked up at her with big eyes, one little girl wearing a red white and blue fuzzy headband.

"He's right. You're hot!" Called a teen boy from the crowd which had Amelia's eyes darting out to the group with a gasp before stifling a laugh and shifting her gaze onto Lucas.

"Well that would be out of character." he teased back. This was them. This had been how they went back and forth since she had somehow managed to get him to say more than 4 words during a conversation. Which had been quite a feat. He much preferred just being quiet and watching the world or having his nose in a book. Really he was still that kid, but he had learned how to be professional and talk to the press and fans. Amelia was part of the reason he could talk to people like this, even if she didn't know it. "Well I'm lucky you like quidditch so much, or I could be in trouble."

"Please, you know you probably have twice as many fans as I'll ever have." he said. She was the one who had been playing professionally since the time he was just making it onto his house team. "I have a couple more in my pocket, I should be alright, thanks for the offer." He'd probably try get through this part as quick as he could and then head on inside and be around less people. That would allow him to relax a lot more. When he was younger he had come to several with his father, who played and then coached when he was growing up. But back then it was more seen and not heard. Smiles on faces. Make it seem his father was a doting dad who loved both of his children. But look close enough at pictures from that time, and fear was clear in Lucas' eyes. Fear he'd do something wrong. The same fear as today.

"Just cashing in my one chance a year to make you uncomfortable." he teased. He signed another few autographs, scratching his name fairly quickly on each thing fans wanted him to sign. "No I'm Canadian, we're very polite up north." Well he had been born there, and spent the first 5 years there, but he sounded British and probably acted more British. As for the boy's comment, he just smirked and shook his head while looking down at the autograph he was signing. Of course he thought she was beautiful, but that wasn't something he was about to admit in front of a lot of people.

"Reading any good books lately?' She waggled her brow at him continuing to tease him even as a crowd hovered in front of them reaching and trying to get a hold of them any way that they could so that they could brag to pals that they touched a famous Quidditch player. "Oh. So you admit that I'm the bigger deal. Ha!" She gasped throwing her hands in the air with a big grin. "Finally he admits it." Amelia announced cheekily. Turning around she took several selfie style photos with a group of young wizards. She was a well oiled machine as far as these press events went. She had been doing them most of her life. Didn't mean that she enjoyed them but they had certainly become less painful especially when she had good company at her side. Lucas was good company.

"You're something else is what you are. Hey! C'mere. Take a picture with me." She insisted and without waiting for a confirmation she grabbed him by the sleeve pulling him in. Draping her arm over his shoulder like two buddies she grinned wide as a magical camera flashed to the point that she thought she saw stars. Unfortunately she couldn't rub her eyes: Make up and all. Instead she blinked a few times before turning to face her friend. "That wasn't so bad was it?" Could be worse that was for sure.

Once the dizziness subsided she once again glanced down the line trying to see if Oliver was there. No such bad luck. Phew. "Where's the rest of your team?" The American Keeper attempted to ask casually, like she wasn't asking about one of his teammates in particular. "Did they ditch you already?"

"No actually, decided to switch hobbies." he teased a little. He was always reading. But then he could also get through a couple books a week when he wanted to. Especially in the off season. One of his favorite things to do was head out camping and relax in a hammock by some body of water and just read. It was nice to disappear for a few days. "Nah, you've just had longer to amass fans. Quite unfair really." It was hard to compete with a quidditch phenom like Amelia. He didn't even know if he was going to get to play professionally until the last week of his 7th year, and even that was just for a tryout. Thankfully he made it and grew quite a bit in the sport and was now even at a National Team level. But the work was never done.

She didn't give him time to respond to her teasing him, before she pulled him into a photo. He just automatically smiled and looked towards the cameras. They looked like old buddies to the camera. Just another thing to be used to as a professional athlete always in the public eye. He just blinked away the flashes once they were all done. "My eyes are going to hate me when I get old after all of this." he said with a smile. He didn't even know how many photos he had been in throughout the years.

He noticed her looking down the line and wondered what she was looking for. Then she asked about the team and he figured what she was looking for. "I'm sure they're around. They wanted a couple pictures of the Canadian Chasers for the years, since we got a new member of our trio." This was his fourth years as a member of the Canadian team, third as a starter, and they one of their players from last year had retired. "I'll be with them though at dinner." He was just enjoying being further away from his father at the moment.

"Shush you." The Keeper shoved him a little trying to get the answer out of him. "Just tell me." He was always reading something. Ever since they were kids his nose was always buried in the pages of a book. Amelia wasn't much of one to sit idle. She always wanted to be doing something. Knee deep in something. She far preferred living life than pretending to live someone else's. Plus she was willing to bet her imagination was lousy despite the magic world that they lived in.

Longer? "And work triple as hard as you I'll have you know." She corrected him knowingly. Even if they were teasing one another she couldn't let that joking remark completely slide. Women had to work way harder than men (in most cases) to guarantee their spots, especially in an athletic career. Amelia never took one day for granted and for this reason, mainly, her personal life (or now lack thereof) had suffered. "You better watch yourself, Hartwell." This was accompanied by a little smile just so he would know to not take her seriously (cause Merlin knew he would as he always seemed to put such an emphasis on not hurting her feelings just like she always felt the need to make sure that he was doing okay and keep tabs).

"Oh c'mon. It's part of the job. Grin and bare it, right?" Turning her attention on the photographer she called out. "Hey! Can you send a copy of that to my manager?" And not waiting for a response she looked back to her old friend. "Merlin knows you need something on the walls of that drab place of yours." Homey touches definitely wasn't Lucas' forte but then again that was the case with most men. She'd help where and when she could: Like always.

At the roundabout mention of Wood's whereabouts, the team's anyways, her smile faded ever so slightly. "Oh." What? Did she think Oliver would skip out on this just because they had broken up? She hadn't. Honestly Amelia. Get real. "I guess I won't be seeing you after this whole thing then, huh?" Didn't seem likely if he was going to sit with his team. It made sense though. "Tell everyone I said hi?"

He smiled as she pushed him. This was their relationship in a nutshell. "Of course I am. Well I was, finished it this morning after practice." He'd probably start another book the next day as long as he didn't have anything come up. That was if he had a book he hadn't read lying around. Maybe it was time to visit his favorite bookstore. He'd have to figure that out. His life more or less was quidditch practice, taking care of his dogs and reading. He mostly read in downtime, which wasn't very often, but he made it work.

"I suppose that's right." He knew she worked hard, but he worked longer and harder than a lot of his teammates. His spot on the team was far from secure, even if he was one of the best players. Just one slip up, or do something his father didn't approve of and he could be axed. Saving Amelia at the expense of his brother at the Battle of Hogwarts had cost him dearly. But he wouldn't have changed it. He would just deal with it and work hard to make sure he didn't make mistakes. "I'm always watching." he said with a little smirk. He knew she was joking, but then again she also didn't know much he had to deal with just being around his father, let alone be employed by the guy.

"Exactly. Smile and wave, and shake out your wrist between autographs." While she called out to the photographer, he signed another couple of autographs and took some pictures with some of the fans that had showed up. There were clearly more people for Amelia, but he still had a few fans of his own. "There is nothing wrong with my place. It does the job." He didn't quite get the point of spending time on making a home look good. As long as it didn't look a complete mess and did the job, it worked. But then he was also content in a tent, so what did he know.

Lucas knew Amelia and Oliver had just broken up. He wasn't really sure if she wanted to see him or stay far away or what. But he also honestly didn't know where his teammates where. He had been glad to be pulled away from his team. It meant being away from the owner. "I'm sure they're around somewhere." he said with a shrug. "I can see you after, but you know I'm expected to sit with them." Make it look like they all liked each other and were glad to be on the team. "I can do that if you want."

"Of course you did." She rolled her eyes slightly but it was only in jest. Lucas tore through literature like nobody's business. He was a Ravenclaw after all and he lived up to their reputation. He was such the bookworm. "Well, hopefully you look up from the pages long enough during our matches so I have something to save from going in the hoops." Amelia nudged his side, not at all minding that folks were flashing photos. It was well known within the scene that they had attended school together and were chums. Sure a few rumors had swirled around here and there but they had been when she was dating Oliver or had just broken up (one of the few times) and they hadn't be true. Not then anyways.

She nodded a bit at his words, returning to signing autographs. Maybe this would be how it was until they were inside. Back to casual and business that is until he said a line that had her looking up with a trouble making smirk. "Are you saying if you had the choice you'd sit with me?" She waggled her brows at him playfully. "What a scandal that would create." She was certain that Lucas had never been part of a romance scandal in his life and it was all the more fun to accuse him of it if only to see his reaction. Still, he had mentioned hanging out after at the very least and Amelia would have been silly not to take him up on it. She needed to busy herself post breakup. "What were you thinking?"

"What else was I supposed to do before this?" He had had a few hours to fill before needing to get ready to come, and he had been told to go home and stop working out. Reading had really seemed like the best option. He had sat outside in the sun, while his dogs got a chance to run around the yard. "What and make your life harder? I thought you were all about the easy way." he teased. She was a very good goalie. It took a lot to get around her. He had a few times, but he had also had a lot of practice between Hogwarts and the professional leagues. That length of time had also lead to their friendship, which naturally had led to rumors. But they were just that, rumors. Well what had been said and when had been rumors.

After his brother's death, his father quickly worked to acquire him from Montrose to Puddlemere in order to keep a careful watch over him and punish him for his disobedience. Well disobedience and deciding to align with the Order. As a result his quality of life had significantly declined. "Such a scandal." He hadn't been in any scandal's really. Then again his entire romantic history consisted of three relationships, non of which had lasted that long. Well that and he'd be publicly sitting and getting along with the woman his father knew had been there too. At least Lucas was relatively sure he knew, or at least suspected. But spending time with her in private or out of the media's eye was probably fine. "I don't know, we could go and grab a drink if you wanted." It would be nice to spend time with her outside of all of the quidditch stuff.

Hannah had never been to such a swanky event like this before; no-maj or otherwise. She felt very underdressed in a white tee and shorts, seeing as most others were sporting colours for their favourite team, or had their own personalised uniform. Hannah, coming from a no-maj family, had very little experience with quidditch; but she had attended a world cup game to support the Canadian team (unfortunately she couldn't get tickets for any of the American ones) and knew several of the famous faces. One of the people she was anxious to catch a glimpse of was Amelia Davis.

She was very pretty, very talented and looked like a movie star. When you looked at her, you didn't immediately think 'oh yeah, definitely a quidditch player'. But that's exactly what Hannah liked about her. She was breathing life into the whole 'girl power' philosophy.

The crowd surrounding her suddenly became restless. Obviously there was someone they all wanted to draw attention to, but Hannah couldn't hear nor see anything as she got elbowed backwards from the front. Then, all of a sudden, someone pushed right into her. She jerked forward, hitting into the back of someone else, and the two of them went careening over the barrier seperating the crowd from the carpet. At once many loud, impatient voices surrounded her and someone was actually pulling her to her feet. Well, not someone - something. A very irritable-looking goblin security thug was nudging her back towards the barrier, but Hannah had just caught sight of who she wanted to see.

Logic and reason abandoned her entirely when she shrieked: "MISS DAAAAAAAAAAA-VIIIIIIISSSS!! OVER HERE!"

"Get back and shuddup, girlie!" Grunted the goblin, as he was finally able to usher her back behind the barrier.

"Over here! Over here! And--" Hannah squealed. A boy standing next to her repelled in anguish at the pitch of it. "IS THAT HARTWELL?!" She grabbed the arm of the boy next to her suddenly. "Oh my god are they dating?! Hartwell and Davis, dating?! Oh my god!" The boy wrenched free of her grip and Hannah jumped up and down, waving her arms around maniacally to them both.

"So much scandal." She matched his smile and a light blush rose to her cheeks. Sure they were kidding. They weren't a couple but they had kissed (well twice) in all of their years in knowing one another and had most definitely hooked up after the battle of Hogwarts but that had been all emotion hadn't it? That's what Amelia had to keep telling herself to keep from second guessing anything. A drink? Well, that sounded nice and it would keep her from going straight home to mope. "Sure that sounds ni-" Her words were cut off when she heard her name screeched over the crowd. Blinking, caught off guard, Amelia turned to look to see who it was.

"Me?" She pointed to herself, eyes playfully widened, and then hiding a laugh behind her hand as she looked to Lucas and then back to Hannah. It was nice to see more female fans out and about and it was a hundred times better when they looked so thrilled. "Hey. Hold on there." She cautioned the goblin security who was trying to push the excited fan back. "She's fine. Leave her be." Stepping out of the line she approached the railing which had the crowd clamoring around the girl who had called her name. It was up to Lucas if he wanted to follow and risk being grabbed at. It all depended on if he wanted to make sure Amelia was alright (though he better not tell her because then she'd be horribly offended).

"Hi." Amelia greeted with a smile, hands on her hips. "What's your name?" Looking back at Lucas and the accusation hitting her she did her best not to turn bright red... and failed somewhat. "Lucky for everyone he is very much single." As was she. Newly. Her ex Oliver Wood somewhere around here. That was probably for the best. "Hart. C'mere and say hello." He wouldn't be able to say no to a sweet fan like this. Might as well have him sign some things and make her day. "Do you maybe want a picture with us? One of the photographers can take it and one of our managers can see that it gets to you. How does that sound?"

She was answering his offer for drink when her name was screeched and they both looked over towards the source. Lucas had to chuckle and shake his head. She always had fans gushing over her. He watched her head over towards the girl out of the corner of his eye as he signed a couple more photos. He kept a somewhat watchful eye on his friend, making sure she was safe, but he did't want to make it obvious. There were plenty of security guards around as well. She'd be fine. Although he did move towards her as he signed autographs, getting a little closer with each signature.

He had moved close enough when he heard Amelia say he was very much single. That was probably the understatement of the year. Unlike his public persona, Lucas was a shy nerd. He didn't quite get the whole dating or romance thing. His romantic history consisted of 3 girlfriends who hadn't been serious, a hook up and two kisses with Amelia, and well that was it. Which would probably shock every single one of the fans and media there. The other players might not be as surprised, but they also knew his actual personality. But he didn't react too much. He didn't necessarily need that in the press or anything. His personal life was, well, personal.

But when Amelia called him over he finished up the autograph he was doing and wandered over to where she was. He smiled at the fan and said "Hello. How are you?" Ever polite, thanks to his Canadian and British sides, he wouldn't say no to something like this. Plus Amelia had been the one to ask, and he didn't usually turn down her requests. "I'm sure we could get a photo, if you'd like that." He said with a smile, agreeing with Amelia. A photo was pretty easy. He'd even be willing to give a few signatures. The fan seemed harmless enough.
